Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) CEO, Madani Sahari, informed that a privately owned company has launched Malaysiaa��s first ever electric vehicle leasing program. This step has been taken to create awareness among the Malaysian public about the environmental benefits provided by electric vehicles. The same company would also be installing charging stations across the country. MAI CEO made this announcement at the E-Mobilia World 2014 conference. He also added that the leasing program would be first introduced in the Klang valley as there is a greater demand for such electric vehicles in Klang Valley.
The company that would launch the leasing program would also be setting up the charging stations across the valley. Madani also remarked that when people start to see electric vehicles on the road, it would start creating interest in the minds of the people looking at the electric cars on the road. Madani added that the Malaysian government is planning to set up a dual source charging station that gets power from the solar cells and also from the electricity grid. Malaysian car maker, Proton Holdings Bhd, released the first electric prototype in the year 2011. Proton is planning to release its first commercial hybrid by the end of 2014 and a pure electric vehicle by the end of 2015.
