Kansas ‘`Teacher of the Year’ award has gone to Jeff Baxter for the year 2014. The award is sponsored by Enterprise Foundation belonging to Enterprise ‘Rent-a-Car’ company.
The award consists of providing a car for lease for 6 months period. In addition to the lease, Baxter will also be eligible to receive $1,500 in ethanol gasoline from the Kansas Corn Commission.
Baxter has been chosen as the ‘Teacher of the Year’ amidst stiff competition of 105 candidates.
The award , i.e handing over of the key of the car will be presented at 4:00 pm on Monday, January 13, 2014, at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Topeka by Enterprise Rent-a-Car. During the award ceremony, dignitaries such as Kansas Deputy Commissioner of Education Dale M. Dennis, Maggie Root, Director of Business Rental Development of Enterprise Rent-a-Car for the greater Kansas City area; as also Kim Heuermann, business rental sales executive, for the greater Kansas City area. Apart from these dignitaries, other finalists for educator of the year award also will be present in the ceremony.
It is expected that the ‘Teacher of the Year’ will need to make lot of travel as part of his selection as the best teacher in Kansas. During his first term of six months, he will log 15,000 miles attending various conventions, conferences and other discussions along with policymakers so as to make his contribution towards improvement in education.
